Kaiser Valais is a Valais Blacknose sheep breeder located in Alberta, Canada.

Who we are

Kaiser Valais is a family-run Valais Blacknose breeding program based in Alberta, Canada, built on intentional stewardship, hands-on care, and a deep appreciation for this remarkable Swiss heritage breed.

Our connection to the Valais Blacknose sheep is more than admiration. Simon’s parents were both born and raised in Switzerland, where they lived until adulthood, grounding our family in Swiss culture and tradition. This heritage is something our children share and grow up with, making the Valais Blacknose — a breed originating in the Swiss Alps — a natural and meaningful choice for our farm.

At the heart of Kaiser Valais is Desiree Kaiser, who is responsible for the daily care, handling, and observation of the flock. Countless hours are spent with the sheep each day — not just managing them, but simply being with them.

Valais Blacknose sheep are known for their gentle nature, but we believe temperament is shaped as much by environment as by genetics. Our sheep are exceptionally calm, affectionate, and people-oriented because they are raised that way. They are handled regularly, enjoy human attention, and often seek it out — content to stand quietly, be petted, or simply share space.

These sheep are not distant livestock; they are engaged, curious, and remarkably friendly animals.

Our children, Kaitlin and Max, are hands-on members of the farm and enjoy spending time with the sheep alongside their many other interests and activities. They help with daily chores, learn responsibility through animal care, and share in the joy of raising animals that are both beautiful and kind-natured.

While Simon works away from home, he supports the operation whenever possible and plays an important role in maintaining the ranch and long-term vision of Kaiser Valais.
